In 2016, the Ark Encounter in Kentucky was completed, standing as a massive timber-frame structure modeled after the biblical Noah’s Ark. It cost $100 million and took over a year to build.¹ This modern reconstruction vividly illustrates that Noah’s Ark was far from a simple project and required substantial financial resources. With that realization comes the compelling question: How did Noah fund such an enormous project in a time when his beliefs were opposed by almost everyone?

Why the Ark Anyway?

Genesis 6, the core of this study, depicts a turbulent period in history when evil was rampant. Vanity and sin dominated daily life, and the extent of wickedness reached such a peak that it became intolerable to God. Grieved by the state of humanity, God decided to wipe out His creation and start anew. Yet, in the midst of this darkness, God found only one righteous man — Noah.

Noah became God’s instrument of exception, a means to preserve the work of His hands and the people He loved, despite their continuous disobedience. This was His mercy in disguise…
